Ths history of Montenegro intertwines with that of Europe. It is one of the hottest points on the continent. Its history is extensive and interesting. The first writings about the area came during the Roman Empire. The area was controlled by Cesar's political family, but later the slaves and surfs took over the region again. During the 10th Century, under the name of Dukja, this region had a very interesting status. Later in the 12th Century, it became part of Serbia. Since the fall of the Roman Empire, Montenegro has lived its first moments as an independent country.
In the 14th Century, under Serbian rule, the country went from Catholicism to Orthodox, and then in the 16th Century, when Venecia extended its force over the region, Montenegro became a principality.
Later in the more contemporary era, Nicolas I, the prince, declared war on the Ottoman Empire. It was the middle of the 19th Century and Montenegro went to war with the help of Russia and Serbia. The war finished in 1876, with the victory of Montenegro and its allies.
After WWI, Montenegro annexed Serbia, and after that, the country formed part of Yugoslavia, specifically after WWII and Tito's rise to power. At this time, Montenegro left its dependence with Serbia aside to obtain more autonomy. this permitted it to grow economically and convert itself into one of the most important republic that conformed the extinction of Yugoslavia.
In 92, after the Balkan War, Montenegro and Serbia remained united, maintaining Yugoslavia. At that time, they produced an embargo in the area and also a conflict with Bosnians and Croatians. 10 years later, Montenegro began again to move towards its independence, which finally came in 2006.
After this year, the country has seen important changes, the construction of hotels and holiday houses and apartments in areas such as Kotor, Bar, and Budva, and also has brought with it tourism, converting itself into a strong tourist attraction and gaining money from it, while also at the same time, lifting up other sectors such as agriculture, cattle raising, fishing, and other industries. |
