Nature in Montenegro is divided into three areas: the interior, the mountains, and the coast. These three areas also have three distinct climates, and this is the reason you will be able to find diverse species of flora and fauna throughout the country. In Montenegro, there are several National Parks to mention: the first being Skadar lake, with over 500 km2. Then there is the Lovcen National Park that is close to Budva; the Black Mountain which is the highest point in Montenegro, reaching 1750 metres; the Biogradska National Park....
In the interior you will find the Durmitor National Park, which is an extensive, protected space that holds rivers like the Tara, the Draga, and canyons, and the Durmitor Valley. Its forests are also very pronounced.
Lake Skadar is the biggest lake that you will find in the Balkans. It is a breathtakingly beautiful place. Here you can see sea birds, pelicans, and other protected species.
Another important place to mention is the Tara River and its canyon. It is the second longest river in the world, after the Colorado River in the Unnited States. Its rapids, waterfalls, and vegetation make it a place not to be missed during your holiday in Montenegro. Biogradska National Park is also worth a visit. |
